Welcome to Secondary

Peter Embleton, Vice-Principal, Secondary.

Welcome to the Secondary section of the St. Ignatius Catholic School website.

As you review the information provided, I hope you will see that, as they make their journey from Year 7 through to Year 13, our students are exposed to a broad range of academic subjects, extra-curricular experiences, and other opportunities which support their all-round academic and personal growth and development.

Following on from Primary school, Christ continues to be at the very heart of all that the Secondary School is and does. As the ‘Family of St. Ignatius, being a community of faith is fundamental to who we are. The Catholic ethos of our school is expressed in liturgical prayer, a weekly Mass, assemblies, service activities, charitable fundraisers, and the teaching of religious education.

On a daily basis, it is also reflected in the safe, supportive, welcoming and caring environment that our students experience and that our parents appreciate and value so much. We work very closely with our students to include them in the on-going improvement of our school, and with our parents to reassure them that their child is being educated in a safe and caring environment in which their child can meet his or her full potential. We also liaise with external stakeholders to enrich our curriculum and provide the best possible opportunities for our students.

In Key Stage 3, our students follow a broad UK-based curriculum which prepares our students for the core and option subjects they will study in Key Stage 4, at the end of which they sit their external I/GCSE examinations. Almost all of our students then return to study AS and A Levels in Key Stage 5 before embarking upon the next stage of their education at university.

Our students regularly achieve excellent IGCSE, AS and A level external examination results, and over the years our graduates have been accepted to an impressive list of universities. This is a testament to the academic rigour of our programme, the quality of the teaching, the detailed tracking and monitoring of our students’ academic progress, and the support and guidance that is provided by our dedicated teachers over the course of each year.

As you review the information provided, I hope that you get a flavour of the fundamental values of our school, its sense of community and the excellent all-round education that is provided for our students in Years 7-13.

Should you wish to find out more, or to have a tour of the school with your child, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Extra-Curricular in Secondary

At St. Ignatius Catholic School’s Secondary level, we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom, and our array of extracurricular opportunities reflects that commitment. Our students have the chance to explore a rich tapestry of activities, from participating in competitive sports and joining vibrant arts and music programs to engaging in leadership development through student clubs and community service initiatives. Whether it’s on the playing field, in the art studio, or within the community, these extracurricular activities provide a platform for students to cultivate leadership skills, teamwork, and a sense of civic responsibility. We encourage every student to discover and pursue their passions beyond academics, fostering a well-rounded and enriching secondary school experience that goes hand in hand with their academic journey.
