Key Stage 3 & 4

KS3 (Key Stage 3) Music Curriculum:

The KS3 music curriculum covers three main areas: string instruments, band, and “Musical Futures.”

In the string instruments strand, students learn to play instruments like the violin, cello, and double bass, fostering an appreciation for classical and contemporary string music.

The band strand focuses on brass and woodwind instruments like trumpets, flutes, and saxophones, exploring genres from classical to jazz.

“Musical Futures” promotes creativity and self-expression, allowing students to explore diverse musical genres, compose their music, and collaborate in bands or ensembles.

Together, these strands provide a comprehensive music education fostering technical skills, musical knowledge, and a lifelong love for music.

KS4 (Cambridge IGCSE Music):

The Cambridge IGCSE Music program is a globally recognized qualification, offering a comprehensive musical education.

It introduces students to diverse musical genres, styles, and traditions, along with music theory, history, and analysis.

Students develop practical skills in performance and composition, choosing from various instruments or voice.

The program encourages critical listening skills and a deep understanding of music’s cultural and historical contexts.

Assessments include practical exams, coursework, and listening exams, preparing students for further music studies or diverse careers.

Sixth Form Music

Our 6th Form proudly offers the Eduqas A Level Music program, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of music. They delve into music theory, history, and analysis, refining their musical knowledge, critical thinking, and appreciation, and developing their composition and performance skills.

In 6th Form, students can engage in extracurricular activities, including choir, orchestra, concert band, student ensembles, and collaboration on our annual production. Throughout the year, there are plenty of performance opportunities.

Our commitment to music extends beyond the school. We regularly organize outings to concerts and music-related destinations, offering students the chance to witness world-class performances and gain a deeper appreciation of music’s cultural significance.
